Charities and organisations as diverse as a community radio station, a city farm and a university research project are among the most recent successful recipients of grants from Hendy Foundation.
Chair Rebecca Hendy said the foundation has supported eight individual charities or organisations in its latest round of funding.
“We have been overwhelmed with the number of applications and it was incredibly difficult for the trustees to narrow down our awards but we hope that these grants will have a positive impact on as many deserving causes as possible,” said Rebecca.
The successful recipients come from across the south coast with applications open to those helping people in the areas in which the Hendy Group operates, from Devon right through to Kent.
Grant recipients include West Kent Community Radio which has used the funds to purchase equipment for the station which broadcasts entertainment and information, promoting the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, and maintaining good personal health.
A grant for Southampton City Farm is funding gardening equipment and the University of Southampton Gift of Sight Appeal has bought two iPads which will be lent to children suffering from amblyopia – lazy eye – as part of their treatment.
In Worthing, Hendy Foundation has donated funds to CYCALL which runs adapted cycling sessions for those unable to use a standard bike. The charity has now bought a TOMCAT SNI trike designed to ensure children are physically and mentally stimulated – and that they have fun!
Hendy Foundation has also pledged funds to Hampshire-based Butterflies Bereavement which supports anyone who has been bereaved with the grant helping towards the charity’s telephone and online suicide support service.
Young people in the Fareham and Gosport area are set to benefit from a grant to The Moving on Project which is a specialist counselling service for 11-25 year olds in the area. It helps around 1,000 youngsters every year and the grant from Hendy Foundation will directly fund counselling sessions for those in most urgent need of support.
Asthma Relief is committed to providing and maintaining as many nebulisers as possible in Wiltshire and as part of its latest grants, Hendy Foundation has enabled the charity to buy five nebulisers to be used in the community.
Finally, the Bournemouth BMX Club is set to expand its ladies only BMXercise classes thanks to a grant which will provide five new BMX bikes and helmets for class members to borrow.
“We are delighted that Hendy Foundation has been able to provide grants for such a wide range of charities and activities and we look forward to working closely with the charities in the future,” said Rebecca. “Almost all of the current recipients have had to change they way in which they operated since the outbreak of COVID-19 and we are pleased to be able to help in any way to ensure their vital services can still help people in their local communities.”
